This sport bike tour is characterized by fitness and technical challenges, with the route chosen so that ascents are on forest paths and descents mostly on single trails. You start at the Fürstenlager and cycle up to the Melibokus, among other places, where you are rewarded for your efforts with a unique view.
“Sports bike tour – Bensheim flair and more.” The designated mountain bike route “Sportbikertour – Bensheim Flair and more” is characterized by impressive views and insights – Alsbach Castle and Auerbach Castle – as well as physical and riding challenges. Essentially, the route has been chosen so that the climbs on forest paths are long and even with only short steep sections and the descents consist of short, direct and challenging sections on single trails and forest paths. The starting point of the tour is the Fürstenlager (http://www.schloesser-hessen.de/41.html) in Bensheim (98 m), from where the route leads along the Mühlbach stream to the Hochstädter Marmorit factory via gravel/forest tracks, which are wonderfully shady in summer. From here, the route continues along moderately ascending and paved gravel/forest paths to the parking lot of Auerbach Castle. Once there, the route follows a steadily descending forest path to the quarry in Zwingenberg. Afterwards, the meters of altitude just lost up to Alsbach Castle and the Melibokus have to be conquered again. This is always done at a moderate pace and always with a magnificent view of the Upper Rhine Plain. Once you reach the Melibokus – at 517 m, it is the uncrowned king of the Odenwald – your efforts are rewarded by the unique view. In good weather, this ranges from the Vosges mountains to the Palatinate Forest and the Taunus! After so much scenery, however, it’s time to get invigorated again and chase along the flowing trails that follow, only to arrive back at the starting point of the tour in the Fürstenlager a little later, “refreshed” and satisfied.
