MTB concept

Mountain biking is in vogue. According to figures from 2021, more than 16 million Germans use an MTB in their leisure time – making it the outdoor activity with the largest share of growth at present. And with so many riders on the road, the demand for high-quality, well-planned, signposted and exciting routes is naturally high.

The Geo-Nature Park recognized this trend early on and has built up an extensive network of circular routes in the Odenwald and Bergstrasse with over 40 routes. His concept is based on two pillars: Information and integration. In concrete terms, this means that all stakeholders, such as forestry, forest owners and local MTB clubs, are involved in the planning process so that potential conflicts can be countered at an early stage. The Geo-Nature Park relies on volunteer trail sponsors to set up, monitor and promote the trails – there are now more than 60 of them.

Through its participation in trade fairs, information campaigns and events, it is a competent source of knowledge and advice on all matters relating to cycling for the member municipalities. A well-founded signage concept guarantees high route quality, riding enjoyment and safety for all riders. The routes are divided into 4 categories – from relaxed touring riders on trekking bikes to technical enduro bikers, all user groups will find the right route for them.

What does the future hold for mountain biking in the Geo-Nature Park? Health aspects, enjoyment of the landscape, but also the search for adrenaline kicks will attract even more MTB riders to the forest in the future. In order to ensure compatibility with all forest visitors, it is important to create attractive, legal offers as part of a coordinated, prudent visitor management system. Quality rather than quantity is the credo here. Nature can be experienced, but not at its expense.
